Mara Lune as Utena in a costume she made herself.

Mara says:

"Kat and I have a 'history' of Utena and Anthy together that started with the TV versions of the costumes. After seeing the movie, we both knew that this was the next thing to do. We debuted the costumes at Nan Desu Kan 2001, but I almost missed it due to illness. The day before the convention, I had finally started feeling better, and finished the costume, which included the shorts, and all the non-sewing accessories, in that one day."

"I made the costume from polysatin with red bias tape trim. The shorts were made from a pattern I found for racing shorts (with a stripe up the side), so I had to modify it drastically. I may as well have not even bought the pattern. The epaulettes were a much more successful attempt than the ones for my TV costume. I made them out of red Crayola modeling clay and coated them with clear nail polish. Then I trimmed them with thick gold piping and added thick rope cords as the tassles."
"But I think that the best part of this costume was my Sword of Dios. I made the blade out of balsa wood and the hilt was made from Crayola modeling clay and painted. Unfortunately now, there are broken pieces that need to be glued back on, but it's by far my favorite costume prop. And even though it's made from soft clay and even softer balsa wood, I still had to have it peace bound."
"This costume is retired until I can get a new wig for it. The original one has been cut shorter to Utena-kun style."

Just like in the series, a ring led Utena to Ohtori.
Unlike in the series, this Utena knows who her prince is.

Melfina as Utena in a costume she made herself.
Utena is ready to fight, any time, any place.
But she's not really hostile at all.
In fact, she can be quite shy and retiring.
But when circumstances call for it...
...she has the heart of a lion.

Hyori as Utena in a costume she made herself.
To find a prince, you must think like a prince.
And to think like a prince, you must become a prince yourself.
I'd say Utena's managed that just fine.
Surely she will find what she is looking for.

Neo_winggoddess as Utena in a costume she made herself.

Neo_winggoddess says:

"Hallelujah! It's done!!! I was supposed to wear this at Fanime 2010, but was lame and couldn't finish it on time. Augh, where to begin? I love Utena. I love her bravery, determination and the way she struggles to break out of a world defined by gender roles. Many fans of the anime seem to dislike the movie, but I think it's brilliant. This costume marked many firsts: First time fitting a garment, first time making a jacket, first time lining a garment, first time making buttonholes, etc., etc. So it probably was rather dumb to do this version instead of the anime's first, but eh. I couldn't hold myself back any longer! As far as construction goes: The jacket was made out of stretchy twill and the shorts were made out of a cotton knit. I really like the black twill, but the white was a bit starchy for some reason."

"I cast the jewel, its trim, the cord cap and the small triangles out of resin and then painted them. The large triangle was made out of craft foam and the epaulets were plastic circles which I cut down, painted and then trimmed with model magic. The shoes were painted. There are a few things I'd like to fix up, especially the wig. I love the color, but the wig cap is really small for some strange reason, and that makes it hard to cover all of my hairline. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out, and look forward to more Utena cosplay! Oh, the sword was made by Mike of Fantasy Props."
