Other Series - Period Disney Princesses

Disney Princess fanart is almost as much fun for me to search for as Sailor Moon fanart is. Quite a few people (shoomlah on deviantART in particular) have done versions of the princesses in historically accurate gowns, but I thought it might be fun to draw them in the gowns of the year each of their movies were released.

I found the perfect dress for Snow White on the first page of Google's search results. It was in black and white, but I immediately pictured it in a deep royal blue--possibly suggested by the blue of the bodice of her princess dress. The original evening gown featured butterflies, but I thought turning them to apples would be more appropriate.
Cinderella's reference image was also in black and white, but I figured since I was changing the motif anyway (both because I'm lazy, and because I wanted to incorporate some of her winged friends in there) I'd keep the main dress white, and stick with pastels. The hardest part for me to draw was her eyes; Cinderella actually has very distinct and expressive eyes, but I did the best I could.
Aurora's dress is from 1959, of course. The original dress was a greyed out lavendar, which I thought was perfect considering the whole "Pinks versus Blue" thing that went on in the movie. The designs were semi-inspired by a Sleeping Beauty doll I found online.
Ariel has a REALLY difficult face to draw (and I accidentally made her eyes lopsided when I was inking, dammit) and her hair is just beyond anime gravity-defying ridiculous. (Well, maybe not BEYOND, but definitely up there.) Her dress, like all of the other Princesses's, is from 1989, the year it came out, and it was already the perfect color so I barely had to change a thing.

I'm ambivalent about this drawing. Her head is too big, her eyes are too close to her nose, and the dress color and design was a lot nicer in theory than in execution. But I like her hair, and I like the background, and I like the fact that I'm still drawing.
I'm glad that the last (well, unless I get inspired to do some of the less frequently included Disney princesses, like Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tiana) image I did of the Disney Princesses in period gowns turned out to be one of if not my best. Jasmine's skin color was incredibly difficult to match, but I thought her eyes came out well. The only problem is that The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast all came out within a year of each other, so there isn't much variation between their dresses. And I totally didn't do this on purpose, but I think it's neat that the first, third, and fifth princesses are in profile, while the second, fourth, and sixth are head-on.
