Lois Lane

Superman: The Animated Series

Made by: Store bought

Appeared: New York Comic Con 2024

Status: ...I wear it to work, actually.

The inspiration for this one is simple: my friend Rob was retiring from running (though not attending) the photoshoots for the Facebook meetup group he created ten years before. I really wanted to be there and wanted a new costume anyway, but didn't have a lot of time, so I figured, why not try my hand at Lois Lane? The problem with Lois Lane is that she doesn't have a lot of really iconic costumes. However, she does have a particular "look" in Superman: The Animated Series, which I had very much enjoyed watching when it was on. Plus, it's almost Rei in executive wear. I could work with that.

I had originally tried to find a blazer (and did actually buy one), but I couldn't find one that had the righ color, lapels, and number of buttons. Frustrated, I asked Lady Terentia for help, because not only is her Google-Fu most superior, she is also an expert on all things purple. She's the one who convinced me that a dress shirt, with the collar ironed just so, would work just as well, and found me a great one at Walmart that looked like it would match a pair of purple pumps I bought off of Amazon (that were really quite comfortable.) As luck would have it, the old white tennis skirt that came with my Tomoyo school uniform A) still fits and B) worked perfectly. Lastly I had a pair of white circle earrings that I had accidentally bought for Chun Li before realizing Patti and Steph had made me a pair that were just sitting on my dresser to complete the outfit.

As it turned out, I REALLY enjoyed being Lois Lane! Sure, maybe the average con goer didn't recognize me, but I made sure to take a picture with virtually every Superman I saw, and they LOVED it. It was kind of nice being the "love interest" instead of the action hero for once, and I'm thinking I'll do another version of her soon.
